Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty) Orange County
A Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the eye lids. Surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower lids or both. Patients who seek Blepharoplasty frequently complain the appearance of their eyes make them look old or tired. Your eyes are the focal point of your face and an important aspect of communicating your personality. The goal of Blepharoplasty is to give your eyes a rejuvenated, natural restoration. This page will review some of the most common topics related to Blepharoplasty surgery. To view Before & After photos of Dr. Aiello’s Blepharoplasty patients, click HERE to go to the gallery.
WHAT DOES A blepharoplasty CORRECT?
Blepharoplasty helps improve the shape of eyelids by trimming of excess skin and by sculpting of the deeper layers (fat and muscle). It will correct:
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid.
- Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids.
- Bags and/or hanging excess skin under the eyes.
- Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris.
WILL MY SCARS BE HIDDEN?
Yes! The incision lines for eyelid surgery are designed so the scars will be well concealed within the natural structures of the eyelid. The upper eyelid can be corrected through an incision within the natural crease on the eyelid. This allows for removal or repositioning of fat deposits, tightening of muscles, and removal of excess skin. Conditions of the lower eyelid may be corrected with an incision just below the lower lash line. Through this incision, excess skin in the lower eyelid is removed. Again, the excess fat can be repositioned or removed.
I am only concerned with my eye lids, WHY WAS A BROW/FOREHEAD LIFt also RECOMMENDED?
The appearance of a drooping upper lid may also be due to relaxation of the forehead skin and eyebrow. Blepharoplasty will not correct droopy eyebrows. A Brow/Forehead Lift is an additional procedure to to correct a sagging, low forehead or deeply furrowed brow. Excess eyelid skin, droopy upper eyelids, and droopy eyebrows commonly occur in the same patient. It is not possible in most cases to achieve a good aesthetic and functional result unless all three problems are addressed. At your consultation, Dr. Aiello will discuss your goals and explain why in some cases, a Brow/Forehead lift will help to lift your sagging upper eye lid area and why this is needed in conjunction with removing the eye lid skin.
WILL the darkness under my eyes and WRINKLES around my eyes BE GONE AFTER MY blepharoplasty?
Not necessarily. You may see some improvement, but these issues are due to separate factors and need to be addressed with other techniques:
- Deeper wrinkles around the eyes are caused by the muscle action when smiling or squinting. Injectable Neurotoxins like Botox and Xeomin are medicines injected into muscles around the eyes to target the underlying muscle activity that causes wrinkling to appear on the skin’s surface.
- Fine lines can be due to skin damage from smoking and sun exposure. Laser, Chemical Peel or Dermabrasion resurface the skin, softening the texture of wrinkles and improve skin tone and clarity.
- Darkness under the eyes is often a familial trait, but can worsen with lack of sleep and other lifestyle factors. Fat Grafting or Injectable Fillers may be used to soften depressions and eliminate darkness under the eyes.
These procedures are very commonly done in conjunction with Blepharoplasty and provide a more total rejuvenation of all the signs that contribute to an unappealing look of the eyes. As you read above, during your consultation Dr. Aiello will evaluate your anatomy thoroughly to determine the causes of your eyelid appearance, and what procedures might best remedy them. It’s important to know your choices and the type of correction they can provide!
ARE THE RESULTS FROM blepharoplasty LONG LASTING?
When performed by an experienced, board certified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Aiello, Blepharoplasty is designed to achieve results that not only look natural now, but will also age naturally with you. While nothing can stop the normal aging process, after a Blepharoplasty you will always look years younger than you would have without the surgery. However, there are certain things you can do to keep your results looking their best. You should adopt a consistent, quality skin care regimen and avoid excess sun exposure to keep your skin healthy and protected from unnecessary aging.
AM I TOO young for a blepharoplasty?
Most Blepharoplasty procedures are performed because of unappealing eye characteristics that are a consequence of aging. However, the issues that prompt patients to seek out this procedure may occur on a hereditary basis or from chronic eye infections, allergies or trauma as well as due to aging. Individuals that have unfavorable congenitally traits can absolutely be dealt with at an earlier age. If at any age, you feel that your eyes do not reflect your spirit and energy level, you have the option for a free consultation to get advice on taking steps to start correcting now!
